Randal Eldon Greene is a novelist and short story author. A native of the northern plains, Greene grew up in small-town Nebraska and later attended the University of South Dakota where he earned his Bachelor's in English and Anthropology. His first four stories were published under the name R.E. Greene in 2010. His fiction has since appeared in publications both in Europe and the United States.
Greene is now working on the final edits for his first book, Descriptions of Heaven. DoH is about a linguist, a lake monster, and the looming shadow of death. He is also busy writing his second book. It’s a dark comedy that revolves around a rock band that has gained fame through infamy. In his spare time he writes short stories, buys books from independent publishers, and hangs out with the coolest middle school teacher in the world, who also happens to be his girlfriend.
Greene believes the world of literary arts is an active and thriving place, and he wants to get his hands in the ink. Currently, he is a volunteer judge of fiction for Heart & Mine Zine. In the past, Greene has worked as a prose submissions reader for South Dakota Review and volunteered in many capacities with the Vermillion Literary Project during his years at USD. He also co-founded the Vermillion Writers’ Guild and served as its president for two years. Recently he wrote a readers’ theater play, Humpty Dumpty Goes to the Beach, and got to see it performed by an awesome summer school ESL class. He can’t wait to see if next summer’s performers can top these kids.
